SEISMIC-certified RACKS

Seismic-certification for floor racks falls into two basic categories:

CATEGORY 1: ANCHORAGE: provisions that meet life safety requirements for protecting building occupants from the danger of racks falling over or obstructing egress routes during a seismic event. This certification is required by the California Building Code (CBC) and International Building Code (IBC) for installations in moderate to high seismic regions. It’s also required by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development for California (OSHPD).

CATEGORY 2: ANCHORAGE & RACK: structure provisions that meet life safety requirements (listed above) plus those for “Essential Facilities” where the survival and operability of critical equipment, following a seismic event, is required. This more stringent certification (ANCHORAGE & RACK) is required by the IBC for installations in moderate and high seismic regions that are deemed “Essential” or as “Designated Seismic Systems” and have an Importance Factor of 1.5 (including medical, fire, police, telecommunications and other critical public, private, government and institutional facilities). more
